Dick Neck: Origins

"It's been a while coming..."

submission: Dick Neck: Origins
date: August 27, 2009

... and I'm delighted to see that after a long wait, it didn't disappoint.

Graphics - 9/10 - Graphically this flash was excellent, it both stayed true to the Dick Neck comic page you originally created, but at the same time it was improved upon much, much more. The animation was perfectly smooth, so no complaints there. I was a little disappointed at the lack of colour in some parts, particularly with regard to the characters in the school scene, but it was nonetheless excellent.

Content - 10/10 - What can I say? The humour was fantastic, I laughed hard on several occasions throughout, it really captures the essence of what the whole Dick Neck debacle was about (other than a guy with a massive neck). The post-credits scene was quite interesting as well, is a sequel in the works?

Sound - 10/10 - Audio was very well implemented, I felt that the voice acting on the whole, particularly the narration, was excellent, and the music was very appropriate when used (during the blowjob scene I couldn't control my laughter).

Overall - 10/10 - I know a lot of work went into this, and it really does show. Biased as I may be having been "there" when it all happened, I loved this flash, 10/10, 5/5, and added to favourites. Great work.

Author's Response:

First incredibly helpful review it's received!

Graphics- In regards to the black & white color scheme in the flashback, I did that to contrast with present time vs. the past. Although, admittedly, it could've worked just as well with colors all throughout, it's just a preference. In comics that I drew, even in a young age, I neglected to use color...again, I admit, it's a bad habit I need to break, unless the mood sets for it.

Content- Yes, but not immediately...in between "Origins" and (Sequel) I'm going to try to diversify my work a little bit more.

Sound- Hey, it worked! :D

Overall- Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU.

I really appreciate the detailed review; You Rock, Rohan!

The Movie Movie

"By far your best offering to date"

submission: The Movie Movie
date: August 2, 2009

Graphics - 10/10 - Given the constraints of converting a video to flash I was expecting the quality to be much worse, when in fact it turned out much better than most videos on YouTube. The settings were quite good, and the lighting is much better than previous videos. Great job.

Content - 10/10 - By far and away the strong point of this movie was the content, in particular the humour. The quality of the jokes were sublime, with several hilarious points, "violence makes me hard" and the Cowboys v Ninjas War of 1948 being particular highlights. The timing of the jokes was much improved as well.

Sound - 9/10 - The audio quality wasn't as good as in previous movies, but I know that is down to decreasing the filesize. Other than that, no real complaints.

Overall - 10/10 - Great work, I hope to see more of this quality from you guys in the future.

The Pretenders

"One of your very best!"

submission: The Pretenders
date: May 18, 2009

Long wait for the flash to load, this was one of my favourite flashes that you guys have done.

Graphics - 9/10 - Overall the video was pretty well done graphically, I did have one or two minor gripes. Firstly, at times it was a bit too dark to see clearly what was going on, although for atmospheric effect I can understand this to a degree. Secondly the video quality wasn't fantastic, but I do know that when converting from video to flash you lose a lot of that, so I won't hold it against you.

Content - 10/10 - I laughed my ass off on occasion, this was one of your funniest pieces. Particular highlights were the "lack of pattern" on the map, the "hand-guns" and the scolding you got from his brother. Good stuff all round.

Sound - 10/10 - In terms of audio I felt that this was one of, if not the best you have done together. The narrative was clear and excellently done, and the music was well implemented.

Overall - 10/10 - Fantastic job overall, keep at it.

Author's Response:

Thanks a lot!

We might be getting a new camera sometime this summer. If we do the lighting and quality will be much better than what you've seen so far.

I'm happy it made you laugh.

Snow Wars

"Awesome"

submission: Snow Wars
date: March 23, 2009

I watched, reviewed and loved Hay Wars when it was first released, so I was really looking forward to watching this.

Graphics - 8/10 - The graphics done in Flash were quite good, my only gripe however was that the video was a bit pixellated, and at times with the sun shining over your shoulder it became difficult to see what was going on. However, I know converting video to flash can screw up the quality, so it's not really your fault.

Content - 10/10 - The dialogue and humour was corny as hell, but that's what I've come to expect (and enjoy ;P) from your work. Excellent stuff as always.

Sound - 9/10 - The music was fine (metal intro was awesome). Only small flaw was the voices, but I know you've worked hard to improve it as much as possible so it's not so much a criticism as an observation.

Overall - 9/10 - Loved this movie guys, keep up the good work and I look forward to viewing future installments.

Santa Went Crazy, Night

"One of the best first submissions I've ever seen!"

date: December 24, 2008

Seriously dude, from your first flash it is obvious that you've got a hell of a lot of talent.

Graphics - 8/10 - Graphics were very good, a bit crude at times, particularly the lip-synching, but with time and practice I'm sure you'll be able to improve.

Content - 9/10 - The bones of the flash was excellent. It tied in very well with the background, and was genuinely both funny and interesting. Good job.

Sound - 10/10 - The music was perfectly implemented into the flash, and of course being Weird Al it was excellent :)

Overall - 9/10 - Few animators have impressed me with their first piece of work quite like you have. Pat yourself on the back, you've got real talent and if you keep working hard at it you have the potential to be a great flash artist. I'm recommending this for the music videos section, no question.

Destroy All Zombies III

"Good game"

date: December 18, 2008

This game was quite fun, albeit a little unoriginal.

Graphics - 8/10 - Graphics were fine for their purpose, some of the enemies looked really good, in particular the undead cows.

Gameplay - 7/10 - The idea has been done numerous times before, and tends to become repetitive, however it was still well implemented. While it was refreshing that the game didn't have a ridiculous difficulty curve, it was perhaps a bit too easy to complete. The controls were a bit fiddly but not overly so.

Sound - 7/10 - The sound effects en masse were great, however the lack of atmospheric music in the background was disappointing.

Overall - 7/10 - A fun game, and a decent time-waster, but the repetitiveness did let it down.

"Excellent!"

submission: Chris & Harry

I loved this flash, I've been a fan of yours since A Random Day, and you've delivered once again.

Graphics - 10/10 - The animation was by far the best of yours that I've seen. In terms of colour, depth and detail it was pretty much flawless.

Content - 9/10 - The fight scenes were excellent, fast-paced and exciting. The only minor flaw I could find was that they dragged on a small bit, however the ending more than made up for it. I liked the easter eggs as well.

Sound - 10/10 - The sound was perfectly done, and I liked the contrast between the opening tune and the more dramatic one which ensued (althoughI'm sure I heard that music before- was it in A Random Day 4?) Anyway, well done.

Overall - 10/10 - You are by far one of the most talented flash artists on this site, and a personal favourite of mine. Keep up the good work, you're doing us Irish guys proud!

Zombie Survival: Outbreak

"Great game!"

date: October 15, 2008

I enjoyed the hell out of this, good job!

Graphics - 10/10 - I loved the artwork in this game, it is obviously is very influenced by Metal Slug, but that is one of the reasons I enjoyed it as much as I did. It was simple yet very effective.

Gameplay - 8/10 - The game is both fun and challenging, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was both engaging and entertaining, without being overly easy, even on lower difficulty levels. I do have two small complaints however. Firstly, while there were a good number of varying enemies, I felt more could have been included. At later stages it felt like the game was being made harder by throwing more and more of the same baddies at you, rather than introducing new, more powerful ones. My second complaint is that the first Mech Suit is in my view actually more effective than the other one. The Mech Suit has a high rate of fire, so it seemed to kill much faster. The NEO-Mech Suit was more powerful, but the laser took ages to charge, so it wasn't nearly as effective as the railgun. Otherwise, good stuff.

Sound - 9/10 - Sound was fine, and the music was apt. I was a little disappointed that it became stale after a while, and in my view the sound seemed to get more recycled as the game progressed. However, this was only a minor flaw.

Overall - 9/10 - A fun game that challenges you without being overly unfair on the player. Barring some minor flaws it is a great piece of work that is both involving and enjoyable. I hope to see more of the same from you in the future.

Mastermind: WC

"Congratulations!"

submission: Mastermind: WC
date: October 12, 2008

You've created the most fun, challenging, engaging and overall best game on this site. Unbelieveable, truly amazing. As a big Mastermind fan, I fell in love with this almost instantly.

Graphics - 9/10 - Visually, this was stunning; it served its purpose perfectly while at the same time remained faithful to the Mastermind theme. My only complaints are to do with the mini-cutscenes upon completing a mission. They were a bit recycled, and I was disappointed that their mouths didn't move as they spoke. Other than that minor flaw, nothing else I can pick out as a fault in the amazing artwork.

Gameplay - 10/10 - It takes a while to get the feel of this, but as soon as you grasp the concept, it proves to be one of the most rewarding gaming experiences on this site. The depth of gameplay is amazing, and it manages to be a challenge without being needlessly difficult, which is no easy task to pull off. I also enjoyed the little bit at the end after you complete the final mission ("Where are my cheesy snacks" typical Mastermind humour).

Sound - 10/10 - No complaints here. Music when used was good, sound effects were well-implemented, and hearing "Hail Mastermind" every time I scrolled over a minion was a nice touch.

Overall - 10/10 - I could talk forever about this game, such is its depth, however with only 2,500 characters or so left I'll simply say this: thank you. This game has given me a great deal of enjoyment. It's addictive, challenging, and most importantly of all, it's a hell of a lot of fun!

The Cat Office Ch.1 prt.1

"Your FIRST flash?"

date: October 7, 2008

This is one of the most impressive first flashes I have ever seen, and I'm not just saying that, I mean it.

Graphics - 8/10 - Graphics were quite good, as always with a sprite movie low resolution is to be expected, but this was still impressive.

Content - 9/10 - The plot was decent (if a little generic) but it took a while to get going, which is a bit boring. Also, perhaps a better preloader could be used, as the current one does not tell you how long is left to load, which can be frustrating with a big file. One the upside, I was very impressed that you managed to include some interactivity into the movie (e.g. clicking Blade to wake her up).

Sound - 7/10 - The sound was good, music was well implemented, and voice-acting was a great touch, not often found in a first flash. My biggest criticism of this flash overall is that the sound was a little unbalanced. By this I mean that at times the music was much louder than the speech, which defeats the purpose of going to the trouble of voice-acting.

Overall - 8/10 - I can't honestly remember the last time a first time flash author wowed me like this. Keep up the great work, you have amazing potential and could be a fantastic artist with a bit of work, practice and most of all dedication. Good luck!
